Macao

Macao, the formerly Portuguese colony, today is well known gambling mecca – top destination for gambling tourism or ‘Las Vegas of the East’. Located on the south coast of China, just 40 miles from Hong Kong, the Special Administrative Region of Macao is one of Asia’s most exciting destinations.

Here you could find a unique Portuguese-Chinese heritage. The center of the town is a really nice – Portuguese architecture with charming streets and the Senado square. Some of the famous landmarks are the Ruins of St. Paul’s and Santa Casa da Misericordia.

Since I came during period of Chinese New Year, the whole town has been thematically decorated. I enjoyed walking through the town and exploring many beautiful buildings. Here you could also find an interesting attraction Parque de Seak Pai Van – it’s actually the ZOO with pandas. Here you could see and some other animals, but Panda has definitely the main role.

Food in Macau is mainly based on both Cantonese cuisine and Portuguese cuisine, reflecting a unique cultural and culinary blend. I had a lunch in one very good restaurant near the coast of the sea. The food have been very delicious. Also, I’d like to recommend their traditional sweet The Macanese Pastel de nata – a Portuguese egg custard tart pastry dusted with cinnamon.

The other side of Macao are amazing and really impressive hotels, from all famous hotel chains to the unique – just here built hotels as The Venetian – a beautiful building that actually represents a copy of the Italian Venice.

The hotel is surrounded by water channels and walking through the interior of the hotel simulates walking through the Venice. During the main part of the hotel, it has constructed the real water channel with bridges over it and complete accompanying architecture around. Over the channel sails the real gondolas and you could enjoy listening of „O sole mio“, popular Italian song. Near the channel, you could see imitation of original Italian buildings that have converted into shops of world famous brands. During the walking, you have feeling that you are actually in Italy and walking through the Venice…. Above, you could see artificially made sky and there is no feeling that you are indoor in a hotel’s area.

This part of Macao has constructed by the man and is also very impressive. Every hotel has its own casino and only adults could come in. So, here is important to emphasize that is very impressive to see such large and very luxury hotels that are mostly connected to each other with long corridors, full of luxury shops. In hotels are also a different kind of restaurants and restaurant’s chains. During the day, you could see different performance for adults and kids.

So, if you like to be fascinated with impressive buildings of human’s hand, I recommend to visit Macao when you are somewhere in the neighborhood.
